Lotus Lake Discovery Center Programs

LLDC programs are an interactive group experience designed for K-12th graders and adult groups. Depending on the age, readiness, and experience desired the program ranges from 1-3 days (with in-school and/or overnight options available).

Purpose of Team Challenges

The goal of team challenges through the use of group initiatives and low ropes course elements is to enhance cooperation, communication, healthy and safe risk-taking, creativity and higher-level thinking. Team members break away from routine thinking and make creative leaps into unusual and untried solutions.  Some of the possible outcomes include enhancement of:

  • Cooperation
  • Decision making
  • Self confidence
  • Positive risk taking
  • Group cohesion
  • Trust
  • Self esteem
  • Leadership
  • Goal setting
  • Teamwork

Low Ropes Course Elements

Using cables, ropes, and wooden beams strung among trees, teams explore risk taking, leadership, communication, problem-solving, and collaboration.

The low ropes elements are close to the ground so the perceived risk is low, but still challenging to complete. Participants walk tightropes, negotiate obstacles, climb walls, and pass teammates through obstacles.

Participants gradually expand their comfort zones (sometimes dramatically) and recognize fears that may block personal and professional achievement.  Each challenge draws upon team members to actively support each other.
